It’s seems arrogant to say, “I know God.” Some respond to that idea by thinking, “Why would God want to know me.” Others question, “Why would I want to know God?”
Why would God want to know you? Most everyone senses God has expectations for us. Our problem is we can’t meet our own expectations, much less God’s expectations. The distance created between us and God is very real. It took an act of God to come near to us. Jesus entered our world and lived the life we should have lived and died the death we should have died. He is our substitute. Now all are invited to draw near to God through Jesus Christ because he rose from the dead. Everything that keeps us from God has been removed. The Bible calls this fellowship and communion with God. It is possible, not because of our great efforts, but because of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Why would I want to know God? Without the Bible, people have many different pictures of God. Some see God as a grumpy grandpa, others as a distant, unknowable being. The Bible gives us a different picture in Jesus Christ. His great love for us in being our substitute captures the heart. In many great stories, a character sacrifices his or herself for the good of another. Jesus entered into our story and did the same. This is a God worth knowing.
Can I Really Know God?
